Model answer:

I’m going to talk about an old peer I’ve met after a long break with whom I’ve lost contact.

My friend’s name is Javed Ahmed and he is my childhood friend. I recall meeting him for the first time on my first day in a new elementary school where I was transferred from a different school. I was taken to the classroom for standard 4 students and I sat beside him on the bench. He greeted me with a smile and since then we became close friends. We passed O level and A level together from the same institutes and our results were surprisingly similar. We had this inseparable bonding and a great understanding of each other. Our family members considered us as brothers.

However, after completing my A level, I had to move to a different city to pursue my dream to become a teacher by taking an undergrad course in Education and Teaching whilst he had to stay in our hometown to look after his family. Subsequently, our connection became weaker day by day due to our involvement in university studies and later on our busy lives with our own careers. We were so occupied with establishing ourselves that we forgot to talk to each other.

So, for the last 7-8 years, we had no idea about the whereabouts of each other. Luckily, last year I met one of my school mates who helped me to find out about Javed and I got his Whatsapp number and Facebook messenger account. I didn’t lose any time to connect and immediately made a phone call. When I told him that it was his best mate, he burst into tears and so did I. We recalled all our past memories and talked for hours.

I inquired about his current status and was happy to know that he got settled in the UK with his wife and only daughter. He now works for Amazon as a sales manager and he is planning to visit us next year. I’m excited to meet him as soon as possible. I’ve already told my wife about him and she is also expecting to have a fun time with him and his family. She talks with Javed’s wife and they’ve also become close friends now. I’m so happy that we’ve managed to reconnect.

I should thank the current advancement of technology that has helped me to connect with my best friend after so many years. Social media network helps us immensely in many ways and our reconnection is the best example of this.

Part-3 questions:

  1. Why do people lose contact with friends mainly after graduation?
  2. What is the importance of social media on friendships?
  3. How do people make new friends in your country?
  4. Does friendship influence you in your personal life?
  5. Do you think old friends are more important to the old generation or the young generation?
  6. What’s the best way, in your opinion, to keep the connection among friends intact?
